About Robb McPherson

Robb McPherson is a Canadian numismatist and researcher of casino-related collectibles. He was also the Co-Editor of the Casino Collectibles Association’s (CCA) Casino Collectible News.

His main interests are numismatics and organizing. He has been fascinated by them for more than thirty years. In 1989, Robb became a member of the Waterloo Coin Society. He was a director for several years and the president of the society from 2000 to 2009. In 2014, he was elected as an Honorary Life Member #9 by the Waterloo Coin Society for his outstanding contributions and continuous support.

In addition to his professional skills, Robb was also a member of the Provincial and National Numismatic Associations. He is an ONA Fellow and ONA President for 2013-2014. Moreover, he is a Director for the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) representing South-Central Ontario.

Robb was collecting and researching casino tokens, chips, Silver Strikes, coins, paper money, and other collectibles. He has also made significant contributions to the development of the ChipGuide by adding valuable information and photographs.

Casino Collecting Experience

Robb’s interest in casino collectibles grew, together with his hobbies in general.

Being initially attracted by a machine at Four Queens Las Vegas, he got interested in Silver Strikes and other collects in casinos. Robert started looking for information on the web about Silver Strikes and other collectibles on such resources as ChipGuide and Casino Collectibles Association. His collecting interests have significantly grown since those days.

Now, Robb has been sharing his hobby with others as he has been teaching in several organizations and magazines. In particular, Robert established the Silver Strikers Club, leading it as the Second Vice-President.

Numismatic Education & Speaking

Through educational presentations, Robb has shared his hobby with various numismatic organizations.

Robb spoke on Collecting Casino Collectibles – Chips, Tokens, Etc. during the 2016 Royal Canadian Numismatic Association Educational Symposium, discussing casino chips, tokens, and other collectibles.

In addition, he has continued to promote numismatic education; with this, Canadian Coin News featured Robb, stating that he has presented on the topic of casino collectibles and participated in the RCNA and other numismatic organizations.

Robb’s diverse collecting experience, as well as his organizational, writing, and presenting skills, have contributed to his insight on traditional numismatics and the niche of casino collecting.

Editorial Experience

Robb was the Co-Editor of Casino Collectible News with Steve Miller, researching, collecting information and news for members of the Casino Collectibles Association.

The CCA archives indicate that Steve Miller and Robb McPherson were alternately listed as editors from 2015 until 2024, when Steve Miller became the magazine’s sole listed editor.

Robb’s work as an editor linked into his wider numismatic interests, covering the esoteric field of casino chips, gaming tokens, Silver Strikes and related items of memorabilia.

Recognition

Robb has been recognized by numerous organizations for his contributions to numismatics and publishing.

Robb has earned the distinction of Fellow of the Ontario Numismatic Association in 2010 and received the Waterloo Coin Society’s Honorary Life Membership #9 in 2014.

In 2016, Steve Miller and Robb McPherson as editors of Casino Collectible News, won First Place for the Outstanding Club Publication from the American Numismatic Association, Specialty Clubs category.

The award is presented to the publication, not to Robb, but nonetheless showcases the excellence of Casino Collectible News under Robb’s editorial leadership.
